What is Ginseng?
- – Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer is one of the globally well-known medicinal plants, and has a long history usage in Asian countries to maintain homeostasis of the body and to enhance vital energy. Many clinical experience and animal-based experiments have strongly indicates the Antifatigue effects potential of P. ginseng. Though total of thirteen plants belong to the Panax Genera, only five of them used medically in traditional medicine, including Panax Ginseng, American Ginseng, Vietnamese Ginseng, Japanese Ginseng and Pseudoginsneg. Among these five, Panax Ginseng is the species that most commonly used medicinally (used in 16.6% of the 3944 prescriptions in the Korean Clinical Pharmacopoeia written in 1610 AD). Panax Ginseng has a variety of active components called ‘Ginsenosides’, which are steroid-like saponins that are unique to the Ginseng species.
